THE SHIA COMMUNITY AND THE FUTURE OF LEBANON

By Helena Cobban©

I am slowly going to put up onto this site a reproduction of a 12-page booklet of this title that I wrote in 1984-85. It was originally published in 1985 by the American Institute for Islamic Affairs, which is now defunct. I am hereby reasserting my authorial rights to it.

I might make the whole thing up as a PDF file sometime (if I can figure out how). But in the meantime I have scanned the pages, saved them as JPG files, and inserted them into this Word document. I lost some clarity on the map on the original p.1, so I rescanned the map separately and here it is, below.

In the original edition, I note that I thanked the following people for their advice and input into the project: Amb. Richard Parker; Dr. Augustus R. Norton; Dr. William B. Quandt; and Mr. (now Dr.) Asaad Abu-Khalil. Of course none of them bears responsibility for any errors.

More to follow, if I can upload these scanned pages...~HC

(Update, 3/11/05: That first attempt to upload JPG files was a complete fiasco. Yesterday a kind JWN reader made a PDF file of the whole text. It ain't perfect but it's here.)
